Albuquerque, NM - Two Killed in Wrong-Way Collision at I-25 & Tramway Blvd

Albuquerque, NM (May 2, 2021) - A wrong-way crash in Albuquerque involving an off-duty police officer left two people dead and two others injured on Saturday, May 1.

The incident took place at the intersection of Interstate 25 and Tramway Boulevard at around 2 a.m. that morning. Initial reports indicated that a Ford F-150 was traveling north on the southbound lanes of the highway when it collided head-on with a GMC Yukon SUV. Authorities reported that the driver of the Ford pickup, Brandon Roybal Barber, had red eyes and provided authorities with multiple irregular statements.

Barber is an officer with the Cuba Police Department in Sandoval County and was put on leave following the fatal accident. Both Barber and the driver of the GMC were hospitalized for the treatment of sustained injuries. Two passengers in the GMC were pronounced dead at the scene.

An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly accident is in progress.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.

Fatal Wrong-Way Accidents in Albuquerque

5.2 Albuquerque, NM - Two Killed in Wrong-Way Collision at I-25 & Tramway BlvdWhile crashes involving wrong-way drivers are rather rare, statistics show that the rate of deadly wrong-way collisions has been on the rise in recent years. From 2015 to 2018, an estimated 500 people were killed annually in wrong-way accidents according to findings from the American Automobile Association. Head-on collisions are some of the most lethal and are involved in nearly 10% of fatal crashes reported each year.

New Mexico wrongful death lawsuits are intended to compensate surviving family members when the negligent actions of another party cause the death of a loved one. Just because the victim died, that does not mean that the at-fault party should be off the hook. The defendant must instead pay compensation to the family members of the deceased after a deadly New Mexico car crash. This can only be accomplished by partnering with a law firm with years of experience helping victims pursue wrongful death claims.

Bringing a lawsuit is probably the last thing on your mind after losing a family member, but you do not have to pursue a claim on your own. Will Ferguson & Associates understands that no amount of compensation will bring back a loved one. Our legal team will fight to make sure that you recover the compensation you deserve after losing a loved one.  Call us today at (505) 243-5566 to discuss your case with a New Mexico wrongful death attorney
