Albuquerque, NM - Two Killed in Wrong-Way Collision at I-25 & Tramway Blvd

Albuquerque, NM (May 2, 2021) - A wrong-way crash in Albuquerque involving an off-duty police officer left two people dead and two others injured on Saturday, May 1. 

The incident took place at the intersection of Interstate 25 and Tramway Boulevard at around 2 a.m. that morning. Initial reports indicated that a Ford F-150 was traveling north on the southbound lanes of the highway when it collided head-on with a GMC Yukon SUV. Authorities reported that the driver of the Ford pickup, Brandon Roybal Barber, had red eyes and provided authorities with multiple irregular statements. 

Barber is an officer with the Cuba Police Department in Sandoval County and was put on leave following the fatal accident. Both Barber and the driver of the GMC were hospitalized for the treatment of sustained injuries. Two passengers in the GMC were pronounced dead at the scene. 

An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly accident is in progress.
