New Mexico Car Accidents
On average, the state of New Mexico sees tens of thousands of auto accidents per year. These accidents cause injuries to approximately 20,000 people per year and take the lives of over 400 people. New Mexico car crashes happen for numerous reasons, however, the current leading cause of car wrecks in the Land of Enchantment is driver distraction.
Distracted driving is currently the leading type of driver negligence in the United States. Driver intoxication, speeding, and fatigue are close behind. The majority of the auto accidents reported in the country are the result of negligent driving. Over 400,000 vehicle crashes per year can be attributed to distracted driving in the United States. This is most likely due to the increasing usage of smartphones and other devices like tablets.
Negligent drivers often face steep fines and even jail time depending on the nature of the accident they caused. Negligent driving is illegal in the United States, and those injured by negligent drivers are usually eligible to collect financial compensation for the damages they face in relation to their accidents and injuries. If you or someone you love has recently been hurt in a car wreck caused by driver negligence, you should contact a car accident lawyer as soon as you can. An attorney can help you learn more about your legal right toward financial compensation in the event that you were injured by a negligent driver.
Even if you were partially at fault for an accident, you may still be eligible to collect financial compensation to help you recover. For example, if the court finds you to be 30% responsible for the accident, you can still collect about 70% of the compensation available for your injuries and losses.
