Luna Co, NM (July 7, 2021) - A Deming woman was killed after being hit by a semi-truck in Luna County on Friday, July 2.
The fatal crash reportedly occurred on Interstate 10 near milepost 82 outside of Deming. Local reports indicated that 58-year-old Lydia Gonzales of Deming was crossing the highway with another female pedestrian at the time of the crash. An oncoming 2015 Freightliner commercial motor vehicle then hit Gonzales.
She suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by attending medical personnel. The other pedestrian was not injured in the crash. Local reports indicated that alcohol was not involved in the deadly collision.
An ongoing investigation into the accident is being handled by local law enforcement officials. As it continues, more details will be made public.
