Albuquerque, NM (June 26, 2021) - There were several fatalities reported in the aftermath of a hot air balloon accident in the Albuquerque area on Saturday, June 26.
The deadly incident occurred at the crossing of Unser Boulevard and Central Avenue early that morning at around 7 a.m, near the CVS Pharmacy. Four people were reportedly pronounced dead at the scene. A fifth passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital where they later succumbed to their injuries.
At this time, the identities of the deceased victims have not been revealed. Local sources indicated that the balloon had crashed after colliding with power lines in the area, falling roughly 100 feet onto the ground. One of the fatalities was the operator of the balloon, and a total of three men and two women ages 40 to 60 were killed in the impact.
An ongoing investigation into the deadly accident is being managed by multiple agencies.
