Deadly Pedestrian Accidents in Albuquerque
Pedestrians have the same right to use the road as everyone else, yet many drivers fail to take the necessary measures to keep an eye out for pedestrians. Pedestrian deaths continue to rise year after year, despite a reduction in passenger car fatality rates across the country. Walkers are 1.5 times more likely to be killed in a collision, according to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Pedestrians have less protection in the event of a collision, rendering them more vulnerable to fatalities. In 2017, a pedestrian died in a traffic collision every 88 minutes on average, for a total of 5,977 pedestrian deaths in the United States. That year, New Mexico had the highest incidence of pedestrian deaths in the country.
When a party's carelessness causes a loved one's death, wrongful death cases in New Mexico are designed to compensate the victim's family, but securing such compensation is frequently easier said than done. Even though the victim died, the at-fault person is still held accountable. Despite this, the at-fault party's insurance companies will commonly try to transfer blame for a deadly accident. Instead, following a fatal pedestrian accident in New Mexico, the defendant should reimburse the deceased's family to help with accident-related expenditures. This can only be accomplished by partnering with a law firm that has years of experience aiding wrongful death victims.
