Las Cruces, NM (May 22, 2021) - A drunk driver with repeat offenses left two EMTs injured after a vehicle collision in the Las Cruces area on Thursday, May 20.
Local authorities reported to the scene at the corner of Amador Avenue and Water Street. Initial reports revealed that 22-year-old Juan Carlos Baquera ran a stop sign at the intersection, crashing into an ambulance with its lights and siren engaged. The impact caused the ambulance to overturn, trapping two EMTs inside.
Emergency responders had to extricate the injured parties, who were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Baquera was charged with misdemeanor DWI-liquor or drugs and failure to stop at a stop sign. The man was reportedly out on bond from a previous DWI offense in Anthony just two priors.
An ongoing investigation into the accident is in progress.
