Artesia, NM - NMSP Officer Fatally Hit by Semi on US-285

Artesia, NM (May 21, 2021) - On Friday, May 21, an officer with the New Mexico State Police was killed following a crash involving a tractor-trailer outside of Artesia. 

Local sources revealed that the fatal collision occurred on US-285 near milepost 77 in Eddy County. The officer was reportedly struck by the commercial vehicle. Emergency responders were called to the scene to provide aid to the involved parties. 

The officer sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The operator of the semi-truck did not sustain injuries. The identities of the involved parties have not been disclosed at this time. 

An ongoing investigation into the cause of the fatal collision is underway.
