Espanola, NM (May 14, 2021) - An Espanola woman suffered fatal injuries in a multi-vehicle crash on Wednesday, May 12.
The deadly crash occurred on NM-68 that morning near the time of 8 a.m. According to the New Mexico State Police, 18-year-old Siri Atma Kaur Khalsa of Espanola was traveling northbound on the highway in a 1994 Toyota 4Runner SUV when the vehicle left the roadway. Khalsa re-entered the roadway where she collided with a southbound 2015 Subaru SUV.
The Toyota was then hit by a commercial truck. Khalsa sustained critical injuries and was later pronounced dead at the scene. Both the driver of the Subaru, a 41-year-old Arroyo Seco man, and the operator of the CMV, a 50-year-old Los Lunas man, were hospitalized for the treatment of sustained injuries.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the fatal crash is in progress.
