Elephant Butte, NM (June 1, 2022) - A collision involving two vehicles near Elephant Butte on Sunday morning, May 29, left one person dead. The fatal accident was reported on NM-181 near Warming Spring Boulevard at around 10:20 a.m.
Local reports revealed that a 2019 Volkswagen was headed westbound when the driver veered into oncoming traffic. The vehicle crashed head-on with a 2013 Lexus containing four occupants.
One of the occupants of the Lexus, 62-year-old Kyd Kendrick from Truth or Consequences, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other three occupants of the vehicle were taken to a local hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries.
Alcohol is believed to have played a role in the crash. An ongoing investigation into the deadly accident is underway.
