Sandoval Co, NM (June 30, 2021) - According to the New Mexico State Police, a woman was injured following a fatal all-terrain vehicle crash in Sandoval County on Sunday, June 27.
The deadly incident was reported on Ranchitos Road near the Santa Ana Pueblo, north of Bernalillo. At around 10 p.m. that evening, a 2018 Polaris ATV operated by 28-year-old Darren Antonio Lujan of Bernalillo was traveling near the roadway at a high rate of speed. The ATV left the roadway where it overturned.
Lujan was pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics. His passenger, a 38-year-old woman, suffered injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. No updates on her condition have been provided at this time.
Alcohol and excessive speed are believed to have been factors in the deadly crash. An ongoing investigation into the accident is underway.
