San Juan Co, NM (June 22, 2021) - There were two fatalities reported in the aftermath of a head-on crash in San Juan County on Friday, June 18.
The deadly accident took place that evening at around 5:56 p.m. The New Mexico State Police was called to the scene at milepost 13 on NM-170, outside of Farmington.
Initial reports revealed that 30-year-old Tanisha Friend of La Plata was driving a 2009 Dodge Journey SUV southbound on the highway. The vehicle proceeded to cross the centerline and collide head-on with an oncoming 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The pickup overturned due to the impact of the crash.
Friend was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington where she later succumbed to her injuries. The 29-year-old woman driving the Chevrolet and two juvenile passengers were also injured in the crash. Another passenger of the pickup, 32-year-old Edward Yazzie of Church Rock, was pronounced dead at the scene. No further information has been provided at this time.
Law enforcement officials are handling the ongoing investigation into the incident.
