Albuquerque, NM - UPDATE: Susan Montoya Dies in Hot Air Balloon Crash on Unser Blvd

Albuquerque, NM (June 28, 2021) - Local reports have released the identities of the deceased victims involved in a hot air balloon crash in Albuquerque on Sunday, June 27. 

The fatal accident took place near the intersection of Central Avenue and Unser Boulevard just past 7 a.m. that morning. Local reports indicated that 72-year-old Nicholas Meleski was operating a hot air balloon with four other passengers at the time of the crash. The balloon made contact with nearby power lines before plummeting almost 100 feet to the ground below. 

Meleski sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The four other occupants, 65-year-old Susan Montoya, 61-year-old John Montoya, 59-year-old Mary Martinez, and 62-year-old Martin Martinez, were also killed in the accident. No further information has been provided at this time.
