Socorro, NM - Jesse Lueras Killed in Rear-End Crash on I-25 On-Ramp

Socorro, NM (May 15, 2021) - Multiple people were injured following a fatal collision south of Socorro on Sunday, May 9. 

The deadly accident occurred on the Interstate 25 on-ramp near milepost 140. Local reports revealed that a 69-year-old woman was driving a 2007 Nissan Sentra with two adult passengers. The driver was reportedly merging onto the northbound lanes of the highway at a slow rate of speed. It was at this time that the Nissan was rear-ended by a 2020 Nissan Frontier driven by a 30-year-old woman with four child occupants. 

Both vehicles sustained significant damage, and all involved parties were hospitalized for the treatment of sustained injuries. Authorities later revealed that a rear passenger in the Nissan, 55-year-old Jesse Lueras of Carlsbad, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

An investigation into the cause of the fatal crash is underway.
