Colfax Co, NM (April 9, 2021) - A head-on collision with a commercial truck in Colfax County left two people dead on Wednesday, April 7.
At around 7:24 a.m. that morning, officials from the New Mexico State Police were called to the site of the fatal accident. The crash occurred on US-56 near milepost 14, just east of Springer. According to local sources, 27-year-old Joseph A. McCreight of El Mirage, Arizona was driving a 2020 Honda Pilot westbound on the highway at the time of the wreck.
McCreight crossed the centerline of the highway and crashed head-on into a 2014 Freightliner Commercial Motor Vehicle. Both McCreight and his passenger, 33-year-old Vincent M. Vega of Phoenix, were killed in the collision and pronounced dead at the scene. The 60-year-old Maxwell man driving the CMV was injured and hospitalized for treatment.
An ongoing investigation into the fatal crash is underway.
