Portales, NM - Abundio Najera Killed in Deadly Collision on NM-467

Portales, NM (March 16, 2021) - On Sunday evening, March 14, a Portales man was killed following a fatal crash in Roosevelt County. 

The deadly accident took place on NM-467 near milepost four at around 8:20 p.m. that evening. Reports from the New Mexico State Police found that a Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 30-year-old man was traveling north on the highway when he crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic. The driver struck the side of a southbound Ford F-150. 

The driver of the Ford, 65-year-old Abundio Najera of Portales, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 64-year-old female passenger in the vehicle was injured and transported to a nearby hospital. The driver of the Chevy also sustained injuries and was hospitalized for treatment. 

An ongoing investigation into the cause of the fatal collision is being managed by the NMSP.
