Artesia, NM - Teen Killed in Fatal Collision with Truck on NM-2

Artesia, NM (January 27, 2021) - A 17-year-old Artesia woman was killed and another teenager was injured following a collision involving a commercial truck on Saturday, January 23. 

The deadly accident occurred near the intersection of US-285 and NM-2 in Eddy County. At around 10:02 p.m. that evening, a 2013 Jeep driven by a 17-year-old Artesia woman was traveling south on NM-2. For unknown reasons, the Jeep collided with a trailer of a 2016 Peterbilt Commercial Motor Vehicle traveling north on US-285. 

Both the driver and passenger of the Jeep were transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment. The driver was later pronounced dead. The driver of the commercial truck was uninjured in the accident. 

No further updates on the deadly crash are currently available. An ongoing investigation into the accident is currently underway.
