Santa Fe, NM (March 3, 2022) - An officer and a civilian lost their lives following a traffic accident in the Santa Fe area on Wednesday morning, March 2. The crash was reported on Interstate 25 near mile marker 286 at around 11:14 a.m.
An armed man reportedly stole a vehicle with a woman inside near the Rancho Vizcaya Apartments at around 11:06 a.m. An officer attempted to stop the vehicle near the scene, but the driver attempted to evade. A high-speed pursuit ensued that ended in a crash.
The officer and the driver of an uninvolved vehicle were killed in the accident. The kidnapped woman fled on foot and was transported to a local hospital. The suspect fled the scene and is currently being sought by authorities.
An ongoing investigation into the deadly crash is underway.
