Santa Rosa, NM (December 1, 2021) - Two people died following a collision involving a semi-truck and a cow outside of Santa Rosa on Friday morning, November 26. The deadly crash occurred on Interstate 40 at around 1:58 a.m.
Local reports revealed that 50-year-old Jorge Felix Martinez Sanchez of Orlando was operating a 2017 Peterbilt CMV on the highway. He was headed eastbound when he struck a cow on the road. The semi-truck continued to leave the roadway where it hit a guardrail and overturned.
Both the driver and his passenger, 30-year-old Travis Ruiz Pizarro of Puerto Rico, suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol is not believed to have played a role in the crash. No further information has been released at this time.
An ongoing accident investigation is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
